To use, duplicate a blank version. The majority of parameter names are only accepted in lower case; however, some initialisms, like |isbn=, have acceptable upper-case equivalents, such |ISBN=. Between each parameter, use the "|" (pipe) character. To keep the edit window clean and free of clutter, unneeded parameters can be eliminated. The current date may be included in several samples on this documentation page. Purge the page if the date is not current.

last: The author's sole surname. Use author-link rather than wikilink. Use the last name or one of its aliases for corporate authors or writers for whom the source only lists one name (for instance, |author=Bono). Abbreviations: last1, last2, surname1, author1.

author: The whole name is stored in this parameter.

author: This option is used to store the full name (first and last) of a single author or the name of a corporate author. The names of more than one author should never be contained in this parameter.

first: The author's first or given names, such as Firstname Middlename, Firstname M., or Firstname M., Sr. Use author-link rather than wikilink. Known as: first1, given1, and given. First name will not display if last is empty; last is required.

Alternately, you can use last1, first1 through lastn, firstn for an endless number of writers, where n is any consecutive number (each firstn requires a corresponding lastn, but not the other way around). To alter how many authors are shown, look at the display options. Alternate names: given1 through
